From S\u00e5nningg\u00e5rden, you\u2019ll find hiking options for everyone \u2014 from gentle riverside walks with minimal elevation to steeper trails that quickly take you up to the open mountain plateau.
\nFrom our guesthouse, you can easily reach the Artfj\u00e4ll mountain range \u2014 ideal for both summit hikes and scenic ridge walks. Across the road lie Bj\u00f6rnberget and Dal\u00e5vie, offering a variety of hiking opportunities. You can also access the renowned Kungsleden trail from nearby Klippen.<\/p>\n

Dal\u00e5vie, standing at 1,337 meters above sea level, is a flower-rich mountain offering stunning views. The trail begins at S\u00e5nningg\u00e5rden guesthouse \u2014 follow the red markers up to the edge of the mountain plateau. From there, the path is partially marked with cairns leading to the summit. The distance to the top is approximately 5 km.<\/p>\n

Bj\u00f6rnbergsstigen offers a slightly steeper hike, best started from the same road as the Dal\u00e5vie trail. Once on the mountain plateau, follow the partially cairned path westward along the ridge. The descent can be tricky to spot at first \u2014 keep an eye out for red trail markers on the trees. The downhill section is steep. The total distance is about 4 km, ending roughly 500 meters west of S\u00e5nningg\u00e5rden.<\/p>\n

Canoeing on the Ume River\"2014-07-20<\/a><\/h2>\n

The Ume River below the cliffs offers easy paddling, ideal for a relaxed canoe trip. Further downstream, there are smaller tributaries that can be paddled upstream. Bring some snacks and make a few scenic stops along the shore as you go.<\/p>\n

The distance from Klippen to Hemavan is approximately 4 km. There is one portage point past a small rapid, where the canoe should be taken out on the left-hand side. The stretch where the canoe needs to be carried is about 200 meters.<\/p>\n

S\u00e5nningg\u00e5rden is located just 300 meters from the flowing waters of the Ume River, where trout and Arctic char lie in wait. Along the river stretch, you\u2019ll find several barbecue spots with shelters and outdoor toilets. Downstream from the village, there\u2019s even an accessible fishing area for visitors with limited mobility.

Glacier Hiking in Okstindane\"Bild<\/a><\/h2>\n

A high mountain massif located just across the border on the Norwegian side of the Scandinavian mountain range, featuring among other peaks Northern Norway\u2019s highest mountain, Oksskolten (1,916 meters above sea level).
\nOkstindbreen is Norway\u2019s 8th largest glacier. We rope up in teams and head out onto the ice. We observe crevasses, moulins, icefalls, and other fascinating glacial features.

Atoklimpen<\/h2>\n

At T\u00e4rna Vilt in Joesj\u00f6, you'll find the cultural reserve near the mountain Atoklimpen. This area features a rich S\u00e1mi cultural landscape, including a sacred mountain and a valley filled with traces and remains from reindeer-herding communities. During the hike, you\u2019ll also enjoy sweeping views of the Swedish and Norwegian mountain ranges. Rutjeb\u00e4cken<\/h2>\n

A true classic. You drive along the winding gravel road beside Lake T\u00e4ngvattnet to R\u00f6n\u00e4s, 18 km from Hemavan. Here, the trail begins and follows the stunningly beautiful and geologically fascinating Ruttjeb\u00e4cken stream. Along the way, you explore giant\u2019s kettles formed by water and stones, enjoy a coffee break on one of the many scenic rock slabs, and perhaps take a refreshing dip in the crystal-clear water. It\u2019s a lovely hike that can range from just 300 meters to up to 10 kilometers, depending on how far you want to go.<\/p>\n

Mountain guide<\/h2>\n

The guide is a description of excursions, attractions, and hiking trails in Hemavan\/T\u00e4rnaby and the surrounding mountains. It\u2019s an essential resource for road-trippers, mountain hikers, cyclists, and anyone interested in nature and culture.<\/p>\n

Based on the roads leading into the various valleys, the guide describes over 100 different excursions. The mountain guide (Fj\u00e4llguiden) is available for purchase at the Tourist Information Office<\/p>\n

Norrliften, the chairlift in Hemavan, is open during Midsummer weekend (June 20\u201322), from June 30 to August 23, and on weekends throughout September.<\/p>\n
