At Sånninggården in Hemavan, we’re in the midst of breathing new life into one of our guest rooms — with deep respect for its history and love for the building itself. This room, soon ready to welcome new guests, is receiving a thoughtful and carefully crafted upgrade that blends rustic authenticity with modern comfort.

We began by removing both the flooring and the panels from the ceiling and walls. The goal is to expose the original timber walls that have stood here for generations. There’s something truly special about seeing the old wood emerge — it gives the room character and a sense of calm and belonging. The timber tells its own story, and we want it to take center stage in the new interior.

"Once the old surfaces have been removed, the work begins to rebuild the floor from scratch. This is a crucial step to ensure both comfort and quality. When the new floor is in place, it will provide a warm and inviting foundation for the rest of the room.

"The walls that aren’t made of timber receive a careful treatment with filler and paint. Here, we’ve chosen natural tones that harmonize beautifully with the warm glow of the timber. The result is a room that feels both airy and cozy — perfect for unwinding after a day out in the mountains.

The timber walls receive their own special treatment: they are carefully sanded and washed to highlight the texture and color variations in the wood. It’s a process that demands time and patience, but the result is well worth the effort. Once finished, the timber will stand out as a natural work of art within the room.

"The windows in the room will also be renovated. We want to preserve their original character while ensuring proper insulation and functionality. Good windows are essential for both indoor climate and comfort — and, not least, for enjoying the view of the mountains and the nature surrounding Sånninggården.

The renovation of this room is part of our broader effort to make Sånninggården a place where guests can truly relax and enjoy mountain life. We aim to offer rooms that are not only comfortable, but also full of soul and history. Each room should be an experience in itself — a meaningful part of the journey to Hemavan.

"Once this room is complete, it will be ready to welcome guests again — perhaps even you? We look forward to sharing the result and hope you'll feel the warmth and care behind every brushstroke and every plank. Alongside our other rooms, this one will be available for booking during your next stay at Sånninggården. While renovations are underway, our remaining 15 guest rooms are fully available for booking.

Whether you're here to ski, hunt, swim, pick berries, or simply enjoy the fresh mountain air, you'll find a room that suits you — now with even more comfort and character. We believe that great rooms create great experiences, and we hope you'll feel right at home with us.
